My “SWEET SPOT” (Libertive or Conserberal?)

No, you’re not seeing a misspelled title. I whole-heartedly support many liberal and conservative philosophies and ideals.  So I could be considered a Libertive or a Conserberal.  Yep, I’m not too the far right or too far left, nor do I fence sit.  Heresy, impossible, at the very least implausible you say? Maybe!

I cast my general political position as the “MIDDLE” – I call it my sweet spot.  I know I’m in this sweet spot when I’ve managed to piss off those on the far right and far left sides of current issues. Occasionally I’ll undoubtedly only piss off one side or the other but it’s tough to stay in the sweet spot as any athlete can tell you.  I believe “CENTRISTS” have been correct at least as often as the either the left or the right.  Some might say I just don’t take a stand while others might say I don’t believe in any side strongly enough, to which I say read my blog and you’ll see I do indeed take sides, only not just one side. I also take stands which many times are in the middle.  As someone devoted to independent thought, I often support one side or the other depending on my very own set of values and beliefs.  Abnormal, weird, even crazy, you say? The crazy thing is this used to be the norm.  Those revolutionaries that founded the country did some pretty crazy independent thinking so at least I’m in good company

While the current culture wars in the USA make us middle-of-the-roaders seem unusual, we’re actually more normal than you may think.  For example, I have friends who are still my friends despite having significantly differing political views on many subjects.  Now, it seems people think they are forced to declare their affiliation for, and be labeled as, a “LIBERAL or “CONSERVATIVE”.  I say neither side has all the answers.  Is it wrong that the side I agree with most, occasionally goes too far?!?!  Is it wrong that the side I agree with the least, occasionally gets it right?  Doesn’t seem quite so crazy now does it?  Believe it or not, all conservatives are not fascists (though some most certainly are) and not all liberals are communists (though some most certainly are).

I don’t think for a minute that I’m the only voice of reason out there or even a “voice of reason” at all for that matter.  However, it does seem that there are fewer and fewer of us willing to listen to both sides of an argument before making up our minds.  Many of us have simply made up our minds by tuning into one side of an ongoing debate and filling our hearts and minds with whatever that viewpoint espouses.  I choose to inform myself with information from both sides and decide for myself what’s right.  Yes, I listen to FOX NEWS, RUSH LIMBAUGH, and KRLA 870 -THE ANSWER as well as MSNBC, CNN and Daily KOS.   By the way, if any of you major broadcaster are checking this blog out be sure to “LIKE” and follow it since I’m bound to say something you love (and something you probably hate as well).  I also keep in mind that the majority of these sources have their agendas mostly pre-set to appeal to one side or the other and very few are unbiased sources for actual news and information.  Instead, they substitute opinions for facts, or present only one side of a story and only the facts that support their limited views.  It didn’t used to be this way.  There once was a dedication to reporting facts without bias or at least with much less bias.  Does anyone even remember those days?

Throughout history, political and general views tend to behave as does a pendulum, first swinging far to one side and then far to the other. Last time I checked, no one has figured out how to achieve perpetual motion, so unless acted upon by an outside force, pendulums eventually end up in the center. Of course, we are all being acted upon by outside forces. We can choose to be influenced by these forces on the left or right or we can listen to both and make up our own minds.  It’s entirely possible that neither side is saying something you find agreeable. If you try, you might even find your very own “sweet spot”.

Hence my blog will hopefully piss off many people and, hopefully, it will many times be people on the left and people on the right and I will be in my “SWEET SPOT”!  I do have the possibly naïve hope that we can all agree on some things and can even respect someone with a different view because, after all, we really are all Americans (not counting the Russian and Chinese internet trolls and spies trying to subvert our way of life) and we all have a stake in making this grand experiment called Democracy work.

Where It All Began

I don’t think for a minute that I’m the only voice of reason out there or even a “voice of reason” at all for that matter.  However, it does seem that there are fewer and fewer of us willing to listen to both sides of an argument before making up our minds.
